LinkedIn Headline Examples: 21 Formulas That Create Demand
Your headline follows you everywhere on LinkedIn — search results, comments, connection requests, DMs. It is read thousands of times more often than your About section. Most people waste it on a job title.
Below: four formulas that work, twenty-one examples by role, and the five mistakes that quietly kill profile visits. Want to know how your current headline scores? Run the free SIGNAL audit — it grades your headline as part of the Story pillar.
The four formulas
1. Outcome + audience: I help [who] achieve [what] — [proof]. The default for consultants and founders selling services.
2. Category + credibility: [What you are] · [strongest proof] · [what you're building]. Best for executives and operators.
3. Problem-first: [Painful problem]? [How you solve it]. Strong for crowded categories where the problem is felt daily.
4. Position + point of view: [Role] · [contrarian belief or focus]. Best for builders of audience and inbound.

The five mistakes that kill profile visits
1. The pipe-separated keyword dump. "Leadership | Strategy | Innovation" tells a reader nothing and reads as filler to both humans and the AI tools summarizing you.
2. Job title only. The default headline is a missed billboard. LinkedIn already shows your position below your name.
3. Clever over clear. "Chief Happiness Wizard" forces a stranger to do work. Confused readers don't click.
4. Claiming without proof. "I help companies grow" — every 10th profile says this. One number or client type makes it yours.
5. Writing for peers instead of buyers. Jargon impresses colleagues; buyers scan for their own problem. Write for the person you want to visit the profile.
